How to Prepare your Car for the Fall Season

Sep 15, 2020
The Fall season is a time for shorter days, football games, apples, pumpkins, and cooler weather. However, with the changing weather comes different driving conditions. That is why it is so important to prepare your car as it can be impacted by cooler weather in many ways. Colder and wet weather can make it more difficult for your tires to maintain a strong grip on the roadway and may overwork your wipers.

Here are some tips on preparing your car for Fall:

  • Fluid Levels- To make sure your car runs smoothly, it is important that your car's fluid levels are replaced to the recommended amount. This includes windshield washer fluids, as well as coolant, brake fluids, power steering, and transmission fluids. All of these fluids work together to make sure your car runs properly.

  • Tires- Check the tread and inflation of your tires to ensure they are in good condition. If your tires need to be rotated, this should be done as well. Cooler weather causes tires to lose air quickly, so it is important to monitor the amount in your tires.

  • Brakes- Everyone knows that brakes are crucial to stopping your car. As the cooler weather rolls around, roadways may become more slippery. Getting a brake repair service is important to help avoid accidents. You should not put off brake repairs.

  • Wipers- Many car owners take their wipers for granted. As time goes on, these parts wear and break down. Hot, dry weather during summers in Texas can affect the performance of your wipers. Replace your wipers before each season to protect your vision.

  • Oil- Your car's owner's manual states the best time to replace your oil. Different manufacturers recommend different times. Always make sure your oil is clean as it protects your engine and helps you avoid other costly problems and potential breakdowns.

  • Heat- With the cooler weather just around the corner, you'll want to make sure your heat is working as well as the defrosters to ensure your safety on the road. If your heating is not working, make an appointment with a reliable auto mechanic.

  • Lights- As the weather conditions change, it is important to make sure your lights are working properly so other drivers can see you on the road. Check your headlights, taillights, brake lights, and flashers to make sure they are all working properly. If bulbs are broken, replace them right away.

  • Battery- The summer months in Texas can take a toll on the battery of your car. It is important to check your battery for signs of corrosion to ensure it will work properly through the cooler months. You can also get your battery checked at a local auto parts store to determine whether it will need to be replaced soon.

  • Check Engine Light- If your check engine light is on, do not disregard it any longer. When this light comes on, it's an indication something is wrong. Don't head into the cooler months with a front end issue on your vehicle or other issues. Get a diagnostic done today to check why the light is appearing.
